Polatlı, 75 km southwest of the capital Ankara, is home to many historical heritage that has survived from the past to the present.

The most important civilization that lived in our city is the Phrygian Kingdom. The ancient city of Gordion, the capital of the kingdom, the second largest tumulus in the world and the only example of a wooden tomb in the world is in Yassıhöyük Village, 16 kilometers northwest of our city. In addition, Alexander the Great cut the intricate knot, known as the Gordian Knot, with his sword in Polatlı, and it was as if he bought his ticket for the conquest of Asia in Polatlı.

Recently, Polatlı also hosted the epic struggle in the Battle of Sakarya, which was a turning point in Turkish history and was led by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as Commander-in-Chief.

Polatlı Municipality Historical Areas Promotion Center (POTA), which we established for the promotion of the Sakarya Battle Historical National Park, the only Historical National Park of our capital Ankara, and Gordion, the first world heritage, is making great efforts to introduce these values to all humanity.

Gordion Arkeofilm Festival will constitute an important step in our promotion of Polatlı in general and Gordion in particular. The festival will contribute greatly to the promotion of our archaeological and cultural heritage values on national and international platforms, especially the World Heritage Gordion.

I would like to thank all the people and institutions who worked and contributed to the organization of the festival, and I invite all our citizens to Polatlı, the “Shining Star of the Anatolian Steppe”, to see these historical values in place.

Kind regards

Mürsel YILDIZKAYA

Mayor of Polatlı
